Yes, starting July 1, 2026, it is mandatory to declare the corresponding labor category (General, Cocina, or Cuidados) when registering a new domestic worker with BPS.

What category is my worker currently in BPS?

BPS automatically assigned the General category to all active domestic workers. If your worker primarily performs cooking or caretaking tasks, you must register the category change on the BPS portal.

Is this the same as BPS categories A, B, and C?

Accepted Answer

No. BPS categories A, B, and C are contribution classifications used to determine how much is paid for employer taxes and health coverage (mutualista). The new categories (General, Cocina, Cuidados) describe the tasks the worker performs and determine the corresponding minimum wage.
